We are currently looking for a Junior Adviser (m/f/d) for the programme "Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains and Standards" in Brussels starting from 06.01.2020.

The aim of the programme is to improve the conditions for sustainability in global agricultural supply chains, such as cocoa, coffee, soy, rubber and palm oil. It promotes the development of sustainable sourcing regions, transparency in global supply chains and the improvement of sustainability standards.

Responsibilities

The Junior Advisor supports the Senior Policy Adviser for rural development and agriculture at the GIZ Representation Brussels who acts as focal point for cooperation with EC institutions and EU member states on development, agriculture and environment issues.

Tasks

The junior advisor

  • assists with planning, coordinating and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars and other project activities with a focus on technical aspects
  • supports compilation of information material on relevant topics, particularly related to deforestation-free supply chains and living income
  • conducts research on related initiatives and supports creation of synergies between them
  • supports documentation of events, meetings, workshops and seminars as well as lessons learned for selected activities
  • organises and updates project/programme documentation
  • carries out important tasks for the project/programme, even if these are not explicitly cited in the job description

Requirements

Work permit for Belgium, as the location of the work will be Brussels.
 

Qualifications

Master degree in agriculture, international relations, development studies, public administration or any other field relevant to the position or Bachelor degree in mentioned fields and additional work experience of at least 2 years

Professional experience

  • 1-2 years´ experience in development cooperation and in particular on sustainable agricultural supply chains and standards
  • Preferably prior experience in a developing country and/or EC institutions

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good knowledge of EU policies on development cooperation, agriculture, trade, environment, in particular forest
  • Understanding of agricultural supply chains and the relevant agricultural sectors mentioned above including their stakeholders
  • Understanding of certification systems
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation schemes
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, MS Teams, Skype, database programmes, software for web development)
  • Team orientation, pro-activity, flexibility within a rapidly changing environment, high degree of intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy to achieve results, as well as ability to deliver goal-oriented results on time
  • Fluency in English and German is required; French would be a particular asset
  • Willingness for frequent international travel is required

GIZ offers a Belgian employment contract under the PC200, a monthly MOBIB ticket for Brussels, lunch vouchers and a complimentary hospitalization insurance. This is a full-time position. It will be remunerated according to the level of experience. The successful candidate will be contracted on a one-year basis, with the opportunity to continue for a further year. A valid work permit for Belgium is required.
