EDFI Management Company (EDFI MC) is a specialised management company with a public mission to support market development in low- and middle-income countries and to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. EDFI MC manages delegated funding from the EU through various blending instruments. We deliver development finance solutions that enable European Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and private sector investors to increase the scale and impact of their work by investing more and in higher risk opportunities than would otherwise be possible.

EDFI MC was established in 2016 by the 15 European DFIs as a full subsidiary of the EDFI Association based in Brussels. The company is a dynamic organisation that is continuing to develop its product offering and building its internal capacities to successfully execute on its mission. It is currently mandated to run several financing instruments and facilities: ElectriFI, AgriFI, the T&C facility guarantee, ICCF, EFP and two upcoming EFSD guarantees www.edfimc.eu.

ElectriFI, the Electrification Financing Initiative, is an impact investment facility, investing in early stage private companies and projects, focusing on new/improved electricity connections as well as on generation capacity from sustainable energy sources in developing countries. Investments have a high-risk exposure and require hands-on monitoring, good knowledge of emerging markets’ economies and excellent relationship building.

EDFI Management Company is looking forward to further strengthening the ElectriFI team by hiring a Regional Investment Manager responsible for Eastern and Southern Africa and Asia.

Key Accountabilities:

Managing and coaching a dedicated team of (Senior) Investment Officers and Investment Analysts:

  • Oversee and guide the investment activities and investment structurings of your team; ensure EDFI MC processes, policies and standards are complied with in such activities, and including the proper involvement of legal team and social and environmental team;
  • Review team’s reporting (IC memo’s, monitoring reports, etc.); act as an escalation point and a liaison between the deal team and the client or partner;
  • Oversee the business development activities of the team amongst others evidenced in specific investment strategies for ElectriFI country windows;
  • Keep track of pipeline origination and ensure workloads within the teams are well balanced as well as their contributions to meeting the targets;
  • Responsible for Human Resources related activities, including performance reviews of your team members;
  • Engage and build positive relationships with a network of potential co-investors (DFIs, financial institutions, impact investors, etc.) and other relevant parties (EC representatives, EUD staff, etc.) in order to promote EDFI MC’s services, facilitate prospecting, exchange information, etc.

Investment activities:

  • Originate investment opportunities fitting the mandate of ElectriFI, through active prospection and by establishing and managing a base of clients;
  • Evaluate investment opportunities based on their financial, social and environmental impact;
  • Structure transactions in line with EDFIMC processes, policies and standards, and negotiate terms and conditions of such opportunities;
  • Lead and manage on-site due diligence missions;
  • Prepare and present investment recommendations to the Investment Committee and external stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals;
  • Organize the preparation of legal documents, in coordination with internal and external legal counsel.

Your profile:

  • Proven experience managing a team of senior profiles;
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in an investment function at an (impact) investment fund, private equity fund, financial institution or corporate finance house;
  • Solid experience in renewable energy sector;
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economic or Finance, or equivalent in experience;
  • Pro-active, analytical, entrepreneurial spirit, result-oriented;
  • Excellent networking, negotiating and communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Fluent in English, any other language is a plus;
  • Experience in developing country would be an asset;
  • Willingness to travel: 10-20% of time.
