We are looking for an ALM officer to help assess and manage structural risks. The selected person will report to the Head of ALM and Lending.The ALM team monitors, manages, and reports the structural risks (liquidity, interest rate, foreign exchange) generated by EFSF/ESM activities on- and off-balance sheet; it also performs the cash management function (daily forecasts and recommendations to the treasury function). The Lending team’s responsibility is to structure, negotiate, implement, and monitor the financial assistance facilities for the beneficiary Member States.The European Stability Mechanism (“ESM”) is the permanent crisis resolution mechanism for the countries of the euro area. It has launched five financial assistance programmes, provided financial support, monitored repayment capacity and engaged with partner institutions in the design of programmes in particular in areas of financial interest. The ESM has just received an expanded mandate from the European Leaders, which it will implement in the months and years ahead. The ESM will have a stronger role in the analysis of financial stability risks and design of policy measures in programmes jointly with the European Commission.The ESM is a unique place to work with around 180 individuals committed to making a difference to the future of the euro area. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Contribute to the monitoring of EFSF/ESM structural risks (liquidity, interest rate and foreign exchange);
  • Actively support implement strategies and instruments to mitigate risks arising from the EFSF/ESM’s liquidity profile;
  • Contribute to the production of the ALM reports;
  • Develop or adapt quantitative models to measure and forecast the liquidity positions of EFSF/ESM or other financial risks;
  • Participate in projects within the ALM team or across departments as needed.

KEY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE

  • University degree, preferably in finance or relevant;
  • 2+ years of experience in ALM, treasury, and/or risk management in a financial services environment;
  • Good knowledge of financial calculus and risk concepts is required;
  • Proven ability to develop quantitative models using Excel and VBA is required;
  • Understanding of the use of derivatives instruments for risk management is an asset;
  • A professional qualification, such as CFA or FRM, is an asset;
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, including good drafting skills.
