DIVISION/TEAM: Standards, Pricing and Assurance
REPORTS TO: Director of Standards and Pricing

OVERVIEW:

Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional trade and is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. Fairtrade offers producers a better deal and improved terms of trade. This allows them the opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future. Fairtrade offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty through their everyday shopping.

Fairtrade International is the international non-profit, multi stakeholder body that is responsible for the strategic direction of Fairtrade, sets Fairtrade standards and supports producers.

The Standards, Pricing and Assurance team seeks to bring social, economic and environmental benefits to producers and workers. We aim to empower them to address the challenges of poverty and to achieve sustainable livelihoods. Standards, Pricing and Assurance primarily does this through developing, monitoring and reviewing Fairtrade Standards and economic benefit mechanisms, including Fairtrade Minimum Prices and Fairtrade Premiums.

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:

The post holder will support the Standards, Pricing and Assurance team with collection and maintenance of data used in the process of research and consultation in Standards and Pricing projects, with administrative tasks and with user friendly and swift communication with stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative, organizational, logistical support to the Standards, Pricing and Assurance team and the Standards committee and its subcommittees;
  • Assist Project Managers (PM) in the collection and analysis of data and information;
  • Document management - maintain all relevant information regarding Standards, Pricing and Assurance up to date in the Fairtrade website and server;
  • Support Stakeholder communication of Standards, Pricing and Assurance with preparation of presentations and other material;
  • Provide administrative support to the Director Standards & Pricing.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist Project Managers, Heads and Director by:

  • Supporting PM and Heads to ensure timely response to system-wide stakeholder data queries;
  • Keep up to date the public information relating Standards, Pricing and Assurance in the Fairtrade website;
  • Supporting the launch of consultations with regards to communication (online surveys, videos, presentations and supporting documentation) and create user friendly documents;
  • Organizing the list of stakeholders to be used in Standards and Pricing projects;
  • Supporting PMs in the announcement of Standards and Prices by drafting communication documents and preparing, sending and filing the announcements, publishing Fairtrade Minimum;
  • Prices and Premiums information and all other documents and files of the project;
  • Supporting the annual monitoring data analysis of unit performance;
  • Conducting desk research on external information relevant to the project;
  • Supporting the management of S&P by any other administrative task assigned;
  • Coordinate the communications on Standard and Price changes with the FI comms team;
  • Assist the Director and Heads of Standards and Pricing in the Unit’s work and strategies (business intelligence) collecting, organizing, compiling and reporting overall information collected on Standards and Pricing projects as well as data and information available in the Fairtrade System related to Standards and Pricing.

Unit data collection and administrative tasks by:

  • Collecting, organizing, compiling and reporting data and information from different internal and external sources;
  • Provide data and information to PMs in the preparation of consultation documents and in the collection and analysis of the results of the consultation;
  • Supporting PMs in the contracting of consultants;
  • Contributing to the execution of general office tasks related to the work as needed;
  • Providing background information for the project research phase such as volumes traded, market prices, transactions data and analysis of audit reports.

Organization of meetings and travels:

  • Manage, co-ordinate and facilitate the logistics, planning, organization and follow-up of all meetings and conference calls of the Standards Committee and its Sub-Committees;
  • Register and check incoming invoices for Standard & Pricing Unit;
  • Assist in the preparation, holding and follow-up of Standard & Pricing Unit meetings (papers, presentations, minutes of the meetings and further follow up work).

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Knowledge/Job Specific Competencies:

  • Advanced knowledge in Excel (essential) and Access or another statistical/data management program (desired);
  • Experience in data management and analysis (essential);
  • Experience with website back end management (desired);
  • Knowledge Power Point and graphic preparation of complex contents (essential);
  • Bachelor degree or finalized apprenticeship in relevant field such as in development, economics, business or statistics;
  • Professional experience of work in international development.

Professional Skill Requirements:

  • Data and data base management and analysis;
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office;
  • Familiarity with online survey tools;
  • Capacity to work independently;
  • Collaborative and team-working approach;
  • Languages: Fluency in English (essential) and ability to work effectively in Spanish, French or Portuguese (desired).

  • Cooperative and proactive approach to work;
  • Strength in data analysis and ability to present results in a simple and understandable way;
  • Strengths in logical thinking and attention to detail;

PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS:

Within FI the position has primary working relationships with Standards, Pricing and Assurance. The Technical Assistant will also work in close collaboration with staff at Fairtrade member organizations and FLOCERT.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • This is a full-time job and is based in the Fairtrade International office in Bonn, Germany;
  • An initial 1-year contract will be offered;
  • The working language is English;
  • Start date: as soon as possible;
  • Salary as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for the Wholesale and Foreign Trade Industries for North Rhine Westphalia and Fairtrade International Company Agreement on wages and salaries Group IV plus an attractive benefit package;
  • 30 days annual leave and flexible working hours.
