Connecting Europe is a joint initiative of the European Policy Centre (EPC) and Stiftung Mercator. It enables the networks and projects supported by Stiftung Mercator to engage with EU decision-makers in order to promote their ideas, expertise, and experience. The project entails joint, forward-looking activities on the future of Europe that foster dialogue and exchange between the national and European level and between policy-makers and civil society on the topics of democracy, youth, climate and migration.
For its project team in Brussels, the EPC is seeking a Project Assistant (equivalent to a paid intern) for a six-month period, starting in January 2020, with a possible extension for a further six months.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the project leader in the daily coordination of the project and administrative tasks;
- Contributing to the communication of the project, including newsletters and social media;
- Preparing and managing the organisation of events (including drafting event proposals, invitations and programmes, contacting speakers, assisting during the events);
- Assisting in writing and laying out publications;
- Liaising with project partners and other stakeholders;
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of the network;
- Providing background research on various topics covered within Connecting Europe, in particular with a focus on democracy and civil society.
Requirements
- Keen interest and knowledge about European affairs in the areas of democracy, rule of law, youth and civil society;
- Post-graduate degree in a relevant subject;
- Good understanding of the functioning of multi-stakeholder project and ability to quickly understand the network;
- Previous work experience in project administration and event management (internship level would suffice);
- Previous work experience in policy analysis is a plus (internship level would suffice);
- Excellent research and communication skills (oral and written);
- Good organisational and time management skills;
- Dynamic and pro-active personality with creative ideas who is reliable and works independently with attention to detail;
- Strong computer skills, especially e-mail marketing and social media;
- Fluency in German and English (oral and written) is essential; additional languages a plus.
