Parallel to our expanding business, we are now looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our team in Brussels as “Junior Consultant”.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research support in a number of key thematic areas (i.e. Marine Strategy Framework Directive, environmental sustainability, green and blue financing, Marine Protected Areas, Ecosystem Approach, climate change);
- Contributing to proposal writing and general business development in one or several of the above areas;
- Strengthening Ecorys leading position as service provider for the European Commission, in particular for DG MARE, DG ENV, DG RTD, DG ENER;
- Working with colleagues throughout the Ecorys Group and with relevant partner organisations in pursuing new business opportunities and implementing projects;
- Ensure project management and project coordination tasks;
- Play an enabling and supporting role in delivering new and existing projects in the marine and maritime policy areas.
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to Ecorys’ communication and outreach activities, including attendance of and presentations at conferences and workshops. Depending on the candidate’s experience and skills, Ecorys Brussels will discuss and agree the exact portfolio of tasks and a career path for the candidate’s future development in the company.
PROFILE
ESSENTIAL
- Degree in a relevant field i.e. environmental or maritime economics, coastal marine management, biodiversity management, etc…;
- A very good knowledge and understanding of the functioning of EU institutions and key EU policies;
- An excellent level of written and spoken English, developed through an extended period of study or work experience in an English-speaking environment;
- A strong interest in subjects such as MSFD, climate change policies, Integrated Maritime Policy, environmental sustainability, etc…;
- A strong interest in developing a broad set of research and hands-on project management skills covering amongst others evaluations, impact assessments, developing and following-up of roadmaps etc.;
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (in particular Excel);
- Strong analytical skills;
- An ability to work flexibly and organise and prioritise parallel tasks;
- A curious mind.
DESIRABLE
- Experience with European Institutions (e.g. Bluebook traineeship at the European Commission);
- Good organisational and project management skills;
- IT literacy in MS Office environment;
- Confidence with qualitative and quantitative research.
CONDITIONS
- Type of entry-contract: Initially, a 6-month Convention of Professional Immersion (CIP), subject to approval by Brussels Formation; as part of the growth strategy for the office, the intention is to follow up (or in case of exceptional performance advance) with a regular employment contract upon excellent or good performance. Direct coaching is provided during the CIP period (and beyond) including an assessment of the performance after 3 months;
- Background of this entry-contract form: it allows the successful candidate to become familiar with the particularities of EU-specific research-based consultancy without the full commercial pressures. A personal development plan would be part of the traineeship period to support the smooth and successful transition towards a permanent position;
- Indicative remuneration: € 1100 average net per month plus several benefits;
- Duration: The initial contract under the CIP is foreseen for 6 months. Depending on the evaluation after 3 months a rapid transition towards a permanent contract is desired;
