This area includes topics such as participatory democracy, cohesion policy, metropolitan areas governance, the Urban Agenda for the EU, as well as the involvement of cities in EU flagship initiatives, including the the Conference on the Future of Europe, the New European Bauhaus, and Next Generation EU.

Tasks

  • monitoring policy initiatives and developments at the EU level
  • drafting policy updates and briefing notes for member cities
  • analysing documents relevant to governance topics
  • attending and reporting on EU level events
  • working on policy related activities and initiatives in which the network is involved
  • drafting articles for the Eurocities newsletter, updating the Eurocities members platform on governance issues and other communications-related tasks
  • assisting in the organisation of events and working group meetings
  • general administrative tasks

Profile

You have:

  • a university degree preferably on political science, international relations, EU policies, urban studies, sociology, etc, or need to do a placement as part of your final year
  • interest in innovative forms of governance
  • knowledge of the EU institutions and the policy-making processes
  • knowledge of EU governance, cohesion policy and the Urban Agenda for the EU
  • interest in the role of cities in the EU governance and the European Green Deal
  • interest in urban affairs and/or the work of local authorities
  • good social and organisational skills, such as proactivity, teamwork and time management
  • experience related to the work of local authorities an asset
  • experience with urban research on citizen engagement topics an asset
  • excellent oral and written communications skills in English. other languages is an asset
  • advanced writing skills
  • excellent organisational skills
  • problem-solving approach
  • good interpersonal skills for an international environment
  • experience with Microsoft Teams
  • digital awareness for online meetings
