For our sector Regions & Cities we are looking for a Senior Consultant Regional & Urban Development - EU and International Market.

Workplace environment

Working in an established team of experts, you will be expected to advance our business potential and track record in the EU 28 market and international market in the areas of regional, rural and urban policy and development. In particular you should have a vast network comprising experts and partners in EU 28 and Africa, a region where the team wishes to expand its portfolio of activities.

You will join the Regions & Cities team that consists over 20 professionals working on national, EU and international projects in the area of regional and urban policy. You will be based in Rotterdam, but expected to travel abroad.

You will also be part of the company-wide Global Practice Regional and Urban Development, working together on business development and projects with colleagues from other Ecorys Operating Companies.

What will you be doing

As a Senior Consultant you are an expert on (EU) regional policy, cohesion policy and structural and investment funds. You have a strong client network in the European Commission institutions (especially DG’s Regio, Clima, Environment and/or Agri) and in other international donors (such as World Bank, SDC, DFID). You will be responsible for exploiting your network and developing new markets and client relations.

Together with the team, you will be involved in leading and writing project proposals, executing research and consulting assignments, managing TA-projects, giving trainings and implementing projects.

Your primary focus will be in expanding the current portfolio of projects in the EU and international market including expanding our presence in Africa.

Qualifications

For this position the following qualifications and skills are required:

  • MSc or PhD in Economics, Economic Geography, Urban Planning, Architecture, Spatial or Social Sciences or another relevant topic;
  • At least 10, preferably 15 years of relevant working experience;
  • Experience as consultant and business developer in a similar position;
  • Ability to understand and predict the market, open up new business opportunities and expand market position of your organization;
  • Relevant network at European Commission level institutions and some managing authorities for EU Funds and other international donors;
  • Wide network at international level and primarily in Africa and Asia – including international donors (World Bank, SDC, EuropeAid among others) access to local experts and relationships with local and international firms operating in these markets;
  • In-depth knowledge of all aspects of EU regional, rural and urban policies;
  • Specific expertise in smart technologies, water and energy efficiency and/or gender inclusion in the context of regional and urban development would be an asset;
  • Highly motivated with strong communication, marketing, and business development skills;
  • International work experience (EU and International Market) is an important asset;
  • Fluency in English (speaking and writing) and possibly French or another third language (optional).
